FAQ
What is a Small Group?
A Northside Small Group is any mid-week meeting in the life of the church that incorporates leadership, discipleship, and relationship. Each group is different but they all have the same DNA and exist to help you make friends and grow in your relationship with God.
Why do I need to be in a Small Group?
Life was never meant to be done alone. God intends for us to be in relationship with each other and our small provide a place for you to grow in your relationship with Him and with other people.
How do I find a Small Group?

Can I lead a Small Group?
In our system, anyone who loves God, loves people, loves life and is a part of our church is a potential leader. If you have an idea or if you would like to lead one, talk to your small group leader about it and they will help you with the process.
Can I host a Small Group in my house?
Absolutely! We are always looking for new places to start small groups.
Do I have to lead a Small Group in order to host one?
Preferably yes. Leading a Small group is simple when you have the fundamentals. However, you don’t have to lead one if you feel you are not ready. A small group leader will be assigned to lead the group you are hosting. At the same time, you will have an opportunity to train with the assigned leader to be one whenever you are ready.
What if I don’t like the Small Group I first went to?
We encourage you to try another one until you find one that fits. You won’t hurt anyone’s feelings and that leader will help you to find one that works for you. Some people visit 4-5 small groups before they find one and many love the first one they go to.
How long does each meeting last?
There is a time set for every meeting at a maximum of 1 ½ hours. Its up to each member whether they would like to stay behind for an extended time of fellowship. However, it is encouraged that members should be considerate to the host’s privacy and rest time.
What will be expected of me?
Just come and be yourself—you’ll be amazed at how many people will want to know who you are.
What if I am only here in the area for a limited time because of my school or job requirements?
Wherever you are, be there. Whatever time you have here make the most of it by getting planted. Psalm 92:13 says that those who are planted in the house of the Lord will flourish. Even if that is only for a short time, plant yourself and watch how you will grow.
This is the first church I have been to and I don’t know anything about the Bible. Am I going to feel like an outsider?
Not at all and we can assure you, you are not alone. Our church is full of people who have just begun this amazing faith journey. The Bible Study groups can help you along the process. It’s not about how much you know but how much you can grow.
What is the set up of each small group?
It depends. Most groups use a study based upon the Sunday morning message that is designed to help you apply the Word of God to your life. Some other groups use topical study materials while others have Bible study and activities going on weekly interval.
Our Small (cell) Groups are specifically designed to help you form a healthy connection to the life of Northside Church. As our church grows in size and influence, being a part of a cell group allow us to build and maintain close relationships with each other. We encourage everyone who calls Northside Church their home church to be connected. No matter where you are in life, we have a Cell Group for you! Call Lily Ong @604.942.7588 or email song@northsidechurch.ca to find out how you can be part of our cell groups.
