MARRIAGE MINISTRY

  Love and Respect
Your Marriage Ministry Leaders

Doug & Ruth Madge.jpg   Doug and Ruth Madge

Doug and Ruth Madge lead the Marriage Ministry at Northside have been happily married for 30 years and raised three sons, Chris, Jason and Kevin.  They bring a background in training and leading in many aspects of Marriage Ministry as well as walking along side couples through difficult times.

Their goal in the Marriage Ministry is to support and strengthen engaged and married couples through the various courses offered at Northside along with the new Mentoring Program to be launched this fall 2008.  This is accomplished by working hand and hand with Gary and Esther Cullen who are assisting them in this ministry along with other mentoring couples within the congregation.

We are excited to introduce the Marriage Mentoring Program to provide a firm foundation for engaged couples and to encourage and enrich good marriages.

Due to popular demand, we are running the Love and Respect course twice a year.  Usually only offered once per year, there will be an opportunity for those who missed the course in the fall, or who would like to repeat the course.

The next Love and Respect will begin Sept. 12. Call now to book your spot!

Don’t miss your opportunity to participate in this five week course that will enrich your marriage.  This is not your typical “marriage seminar”.  Come and hear the very talented communicator, Emerson Eggerich as he speaks on subjects such as:  How to step off each other’s air hose, How to avoid the crazy cycle, How to motivate and energize your spouse and how to respect your husband or love your wife.

Emerson is gifted in communicating these truths along with many others in a humorous yet impacting way. Your marriage will certainly be enriched.

Join us for five short weeks as we explore God’s truth for your marriage, meet other married couples at Northside and share a meal together afterwards.

Cost of the course, workbooks and gourmet meals each evening is only $70/couple for all five weeks inclusive.

Childcare is available for a nominal fee each evening.  We have the planned an early evening with your children and you in mind.  The course and subsequent dinner should conclude by 7:00 p.m. each evening.

Please sign up early to avoid disappointment.  Please email Ruth at the church office at rmadge@northsidechurch.ca or call the church to register 604.942.7711

What have people said about the course?...

“It is like a date night. They make you feel very special…you don’t have to share with anyone else. You have a sense of privacy which is important.”

“We were like two people living in the same house leading separate lives. It helped us to learn the tools for communicating. You think you know how to communicate but sometimes you just know how to talk. We were able to break through that surface level of communication and really share our lives together and get back the intimacy and closeness that makes marriage so wonderful.”

“It has made a huge difference. We are no longer walking on egg shells…how we wish we had The Marriage Course to go to years ago at the start of our marriage. It’s never too late to put things right.”

“I couldn’t recommend it enough. You arrive and they have dinner by candlelight ready for you. You work through real issues. You make real progress. It’s an important relationship and I think everyone should devote time to it.”

Marriage Mentoring

Engaged/Newly Married?

So often we think of a marriage ceremony as the culmination of a courtship process. But in reality, it is only a beginning. It marks the start of lifelong love, offering newlyweds the opportunity cultivate positive habits right from the start that will pay off for them down through the decades.

The engagement period and newlywed months for a couple offer an especially important opportunity for marriage mentors. More than any other time in their married life, this window of opportunity can be the point at which they develop healthy habits that last a lifetime

Good Marriage?

The greatest enemy to a great marriage is a good marriage. That’s why so few couples in a good marriage aspire to something better. They look around at other couples and realize they aren’t doing too badly. At least we don’t have their problems, they think to themselves. We’re doing okay. And they are. But they’ve settled for the state they are in, and by default, they’ve become complacent.

This is not a counseling or “fix your marriage” relationship, yet rather a more of a “coming along side” relationship.  Building relationships together as two couples that ultimately enrich both marriages.  It is not a life time commitment for either couple, yet rather an agreed upon time frame together.

Join this fall in enriching and strengthening your Marriage.  Application forms are available at all three church offices for couples who are interested in investing in their marriage to change a life time.

Doug and Ruth Madge along with Gary and Esther Cullen are overseeing this component of the Marriage Ministry at Northside.  Please feel free to contact either couple through the church office 604.942.7711 or by email poco@northsidechurch.ca

There is no cost associated with this ministry.
