Beta is more focused on the church than Alpha. As you look through the Table of Contents of this syllabus, you’ll notice that most of the subjects that we will deal with are about the church. Later, in Lesson 5, we’ll see clearly that when we talk about the church, we are not talking about a building where people worship and learn, but we are talking about a group of people whom God has called out (that’s what the word church literally means) to follow Him.
When you received Jesus Christ as your Savior, you joined a large family of believers around the world. Although there are different degrees of involvement and understanding, estimates are that about two billion people claim to be Christians in our world today. We will be learning in Beta how God intends that this large group of called out believers should function and behave; and where we personally fit into God’s plans and purposes. This will be a growth-enhancing semester for all of us who are taking this path together. I trust you will enjoy the journey.
